A strategic Irrigation - Project CHAVIMOCHIC (Chao - Viru - Moche Chicama) is going ahead in the coastal area of Peru, using the waters of its most important Pacific watershed river Santa together with adjacent valleys that, are interconnected through a more than 200 kin long feeder channel. A similar but smaller Irrigation Scheme called CHINECAS (according to the geographical places Chimbote - Nepe? a - Casma) is looked at, too. Focus is on available human & natural resources - here: cheap labor and water from the Sierra plus soil from the Costa. Prospects exist for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) given the fact that initial investments into large hydraulic infrastructure had already been taken in charge by the state treasury. Yet, certain impediments or obstacles still have to be overcome and dealt with. These are basically related to hydraulic engineering of water infrastructures, on - field irrigation challenges, groundwater - table handling and overall river basin management.
