With north atitude 40 as boundary, the Takelamgan desert can is divided into two big sedimentary areas they are north alluvial flood plain generated by west and east Tarim river and south alluvial lacustrine fine grain plain generated by lots of river system originated from north side of KuLun mountain. To find the hydrogeological character of two sedimentary areas can help study the change of palaeogeographic environment and the evolvement of groundwater system. In order to find the hydrogeological character of Takelamgan desert, the prospecting work has been done with audiomagnetotelluric sounding method along Tazhong road, this paper presents the application effect. The feature of electric property show perfectly the two different sedimentary area and the corresponding hydrogeological unit, at the same time, based on the distribution of resistivity, we plot the groundwater quality map, and infer the evolutive process of palaeo-river course. These information provide the scientific evidence for the reasearch of groundwater generation and evolvement.
