The Kuyehe River is a first - class branch located at the right bank of the Hekouzhen - Longmen reach in the middle Yellow River, flowing through Loess Plateau and the Maowusu Desert. This Basin has complicated landforms with severe water and soil loss. The drought disaster, rainstorm and sandstorm occur frequently there, and large amount of coarse sediment is drained into the Yellow River through the Basin. All these natural phenomena make it to be a very famous river. The Dongsheng Coalfield, a world famous superhuge coalfield, in Shenfu runs through the middle part of the Basin, which has become the constructing center of the "energy and heavy chemical industry base in Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia" of our country. However: the water and soil loss has been aggravating because of the rapid development and construction, as well as the population explosion and the unreasonable excessive consumption of resources. To strengthen the ecological environment construction focusing on the water and soil conservation, and accelerate the coordinating progress of resource development and environment protection has become the essential measures to implement the strategy of Great Western Development in the Basin area.
