Sand and gravel culture techniques were used in pot and glass house to study the effect of saline irrigation water on the growth and nutrient contents of bajra plant. The plant height, fresh and dry matter were significantly decreased with increase in the concentration levels (3000-9000 ppm). However, a level of 3000 ppm produced better growth compared to control. It was also observed that fine desert sand produced more fresh and dry matter than the gravel, irrespective of the growth media used. The content of nutrients in the plant were also variable, but Na content increased with increased salinity levels. It was concluded from the study that bajra has the potential of cultivation in moderately saline soils.
