The specific binding of tritiated dihydroazadirachtin to two insect tissues, Schistocerca gregaria testes from mature males and Spodoptera Sf9 cells, were compared. Specific, time-dependent, saturable high affinity binding of the radioligand occurred in both tissues, with many similarities in binding characteristics. Analyses of these indicated one population of binding sites in each of the tissues.

Those differences which do occur relating td the lower dissociation rate constant and higher receptor numbers in Sf9 cells suggest that these cultured cells may offer the best model system for future identification and characterization of the binding component. Preliminary studies an both tissues have indicated that the binding site is proteinaceous, heat-labile and may be associated with cellular RNA.
