An analysis is carried out to determine if a climate change in annual rainfall, implies an increase in severe storms intensity. The severe storms analyzed are the ones producing the annual maximum of daily rainfall. Time series of this variable are used to calculate the design storm (The design storm is used in water resources for designing hydraulic structures for flood control, or urban stormwater drainage). The region of study is semi-arid, located in mid-latitudes, in central Argentina.


Results indicate that in this region, under a climate change in the annual rainfall, the statistical characteristics of the time series of annual maximum of daily rainfall (the design storm) remain unchanged.
