The experiment described in this paper was carried out in order to determine the cooling effect of a flowing water film on a glass surface.


The idea on which this is based is that, in a building with a large glazing area, a waterfall covering the outside surface of the glass would not only provide an aesthetic feeling of looking out at flowing water on a hot summer day, but also provide passive cooling on the inside.


The hypothesis of the authors is that in a hot-arid climate a waterwall could be used for commercial as well as residential buildings, and its installation and operative cost would be amortized in the A/C savings along the years.
