This paper discusses an effort conducted to characterize four types of vibration isolators regarding their frequency response as a function of temperature and to determine whether the system utilizing the isolators would be able to survive operation in an arctic environment. Previous operation in a desert environment had been performed with no difficulty and it was hoped that it could be predicted that arctic operations would be successful based on desert and laboratory information. Data at various temperatures were gathered in the lab, and Power Spectral Density (PSD) data, transfer functions, and fatigue ratios were used to predict responses at arctic temperatures. Unfortunately, predicted arctic responses exceeded those the system had been exposed to in desert operations, and it was determined that additional testing at arctic temperatures was warranted.
