The calibration scheme of the ATSR-2 visible channels is described with particular reference to a look up table used to convert uncalibrated image counts to reflectances. A region of the South Eastern Libyan Desert(21 degrees to 23 degrees N, 28 degrees to 29 degrees E) has been considered for monitoring the long term stability of the in flight calibration system Observations for the first 18 months of ATSR-2 operations have yielded drift rates of 0.5% (1.6 mu m), 1.8% (0.87 mu m), 0.8% (0.66 mu m) and 1.7% (0.56 mu m) per year.
