Temperature is a key physical magnitude related to many processes which take place between land, sea and atmosphere. Particularly, it should be related to the desertification processes; but at present few attempts have been made to use the information contained in the thermal infrared to study these phenomena. We demonstrate in this work its usefulness and propose a preliminar thermal degradation index that can be used complementarily to other indices calculated with optical and infrared data.
