Periodical survey of the localities with varied ecosystem was undertaken to isolate and identify the rhizosphere mycoflora of Tephrosia purpurea and their role in nodulation. The common fungi so obtained are the species of Aspergillus, Chaetomium, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Myrothecium, Neocosmospora, Penicillium, Phoma, Rhizopus, Spicaria etc. However, distinct variations were observed with regard to the native fungal species and their population density, which was more in nodulated plants than in unnodulated plants. This may be due to insufficient moisture in the soil of unnodulated plants, which hampers the synergistic activities of the fungi and thus root nodulation.
