英文摘要 | The current culture shaping the identities and value-system of our students at Msgr. Edward Pace High School is a market-designed consumer culture. By interpreting reality for them according to its profit-motives, it succeeds at narrowing the scope of their spiritual vision, as well as the development of their human potential. It achieves its profit goals by exploiting their natural needs for identity and social affirmation. Often it does so with little regard for the moral health of young people and society. Catholic Liberation Education responds to this conundrum through a pedagogy that enables students to take notice of designed culture's control over them. Integral to this form of education is an encounter with the Christian/biblical tradition that questions the conventional. This is particularly visible in the life of Jesus. By actively conversing with this tradition, through a variety of methods that sharpen their critical thinking and develop their socio-cultural critical skills, our students will become more independent of designed culture's manipulation. In essence, this type of education punctuates the thinking process as well as content. Catholic Liberation Education further proposes the integration of philosophical and cultural studies, media education and critical thinking education. This combination of Christian liberative content with the development of critical thinking skills will empower our students to be less docile to the control of designed culture and become protagonists in society. |
