GC-MS Analysis, DPPH & Enzyme Inhibition Assays of Trianthema triquetra Rottl. and Willd. Growing in Pakistan

英文摘要Trianthema triquetra Rottl. & Willd. (Aizoaceae) is a desert plant of Pakistan that has been traditionally used for various skin ailments, liver diseases, chronic fever, gout and amenorrhea. The plant has not been explored for phytochemicals or pharmacology yet. The aim of the study is to conduct gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method and preliminary DPPH and enzyme inhibition assays for T. triquetra extract/fractions for identification of active principle and providing the basis of drug discovery. GC-MS analysis of T. triquetra led to the identification of seventeen compounds. These constituents include 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-, methyl ester (20.324%), hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester (16.082%), 9-octadecenoic acid (Z)-, methyl ester (13.604%), 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, ethyl ester (10.134%), hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (9.102%), ethyl oleate (7.786%), 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono (2-ethylhexyl) ester (7.732%), and vitamin E (3.590%). The n-hexane fraction showed the best activity against DPPH with 82.4%, while all the extract/fractions exhibited moderate tyrosinase, xanthine oxidase (XO), and carbonic anhydrase (CA) inhibition. Due to presence of various phytoactive constituents in T. triquetra and inhibitory potential against DPPH, tyrosinase, XO, and CA it may be recommended as a plant of phytopharmaceutical importance.
