英文摘要 | The Ksour of south of Algeria, classified as a World Heritage of UNESCO, are earthen constructions, built with ancestral techniques. Although these techniques are widely used in the Saharan Desert region, very few studies hav approached them with scientific understanding. These old structures are known to suffer over time of damage due to difficult weather conditions. Several rehabilitation solutions have been established, but the problem remains considerable due to lack of information and knowledge on the behavior of these structures. Predominantly, their very complex architectural design and the materials used makes them very different in comparison to the most known masonry construction. These aspects are further discussed in the literature. This study contributes, primarily, to shed an understanding of the mechanical behavior of the original material used to build the Ksour. Secondly, to assess the impact of adding other natural local materials to the original earth materials in order to increase their proprieties, such as their waterproof performance and durability. These added materials must be able to adapt to these structures while respecting their originality in terms of architectural, color appearance and also their mechanical behaviors'. The obtained results show the effects archived by using different compositions on the durability of stabilized earth blocs from 28 days to 6 months' time scale. In total over 564 samples were analyzed during this study and their performances are presented. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. |
