This article explores Modern English words that describe silicon and its compounds as they are used in a popular novel that was published in 1975. Having previously covered the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf and the Elizabethan poem Venus and Adonis, this novel was chosen an example of Modern English literature that is chronologically well past the date of the discovery of the element silicon. Specifically, the work presented herein is based upon the book Last Bus to Woodstock which is the first Inspector Morse mystery that was written by the author Colin Dexter. There are thirteen Morse books and each of them is set in Oxford, United Kingdom. They were all published in the 20(th) century. This work is the eighth contribution to an ongoing series of articles given in the SpringerNature journal SILICON under the banner POETS’ CORNER.
