英文摘要	Baicheng City is located in the western part of the Songnen Plain, a semi arid area, ■where the annual precipitation and evaporation are 411.4 mm and 1 846.1 mm mspectively, and the aridity index is 4 . 49. The city is in shortage of surface water resources but rich in groundwater resources. Therefore, it is the key for the social and economic sustainable development to rationally exploit and utilize the groundwater resources in the city. Currently, the groundwater is seriously polluted mainly by industrial wastewater and domestic sewage. In this paper, the hydrogeologic conditions in Baicheng City are analyzed, and the groundwater quality is evaluated. Thus, the rational volume of the pumped groundwater, space between the wells, areavs of groundwater pumping, distance of the pollution sources and protection zones of drinking water source fields are determined. Which can provide the scientific basis for the rational exploitation and utilization of groundwater resources in Baicheng City so as to promote the rapid development of the urban society and economy.
