中文摘要	通过对甘宁蒙陕农牧交错区的自然特征和生态功能、人类活动对该区环境的影响、水资源状况、国内外开垦草原的教训等方面的分析、论证，说明该区不宜大规模开垦，并提出该区生态保护与建设的对策。
英文摘要	The climate in the agricultural and pasturing interlaced zone of Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi belongs to semi-arid type in temperate or warm-temperate zone. The natural vegetation in this area includes forest pasture and typical steppe. This was a place where agriculture and animal husbandly took their turns in his-torical period despite of the generally suitability for pasturing. Because of the population increasing with time the cultivated area extended gradually and the pasturing area dwindled accordingly. Consequently, the local fragile e-cology - economy - society integrated system was disturbed. Land desertification and new sand sources occurred. Sandstorms took place frequently in the down-wind regions. For restraining land desertification extending and re-es-tablishing the ecological barrier the industry pattern dominated by animal husbandry must be constructed. The areas inadvisable to cultivation should be returned to forestry and grassland.
