According to FAO, in the last 30 years, a quarter of the total agricultural land at world level has grown more least childbearing because of erosion, desertification, loss of nutrients from the soil and other forms of degradation. Estimates reveal that only in Europe annual costs induced by soil erosion vary between 700 and 14 000 million Euro. Today the farmers are working for conventional or environmentally-friendly agriculture without leaving the soil to ’rest’. Because of this, in terms of growing process, the plants are suffering a poverty in nutrients. The Hofigal (Bucharest, Romania) aim for this study is to find new bio-fertilisation methods for the herbs and aromatic plants which are growning in greenhouses and on its own lands. This experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Environmental University of Bucharest on 7 species of medicinal plants: alfalfa (Medicago sativa L. 1753); basil (Ocimum basilicum L.); flax (genus Linum L.); thistle (Silybum marianum L.); negrilica (Nigella sativa L.); coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) and hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). Four different types of composting for improvement of quality of the soil were used: wool, nearing of the forest, the peat of fir and peat of herbage. They have been used in various combinations depending on the nutritive balance of each plant and on ecological requirements of the soil.
