In recent years numerous studies have been carried out to incorporate plant growth promoter micro-organisms in agricultural production. However, there is little information about studies on the effects of these micro-organisms on forest species, especially of arid zones. The present work is focused on evaluating the effect of inoculation of Bacillus spp., Trichoderma spp., Glomus intraradices and halophyte rhizobacteria on the germination of seeds of Echinocactus platyacanthus, a species native to Mexican semi-desert areas. Results show that microorganisms play an important role in promoting the germination process of Echinocactus seeds, the germination promotion by micro-organisms being higher when the seeds are washed.
