英文摘要 | We investigate the role of ecology and phylogeny in the association between lizard abundance and microhabitat variables in an Amazon rain forest site. Using pitfall trap arrays, we collected data from 349 individuals belonging to 23 lizard species. After accounting for spatial autocorrelation and using a canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), we found that lizard captures were significantly associated with microhabitat variables, which accounted for 48 percent of the observed variation. Furthermore, a canonical phylogenetic ordination (CPO) indicated that microhabitat variables are more important in determining the distribution of lizard species than phylogenetic relationships among species. Termite nests, canopy openness, and tree circumference were strongly associated with the number of captures of certain lizard species. Our results confirm autecology studies of individual lizard species for which data are available. We suggest that maintaining heterogeneous forested microhabitats should be a central goal for sustaining a high lizard biodiversity in Amazon rain forests. Resumo Nos investigamos os papeis da ecologia e da filogenia na associacAo entre a abundancia de lagartos e variaveis do microhabitat em uma area de Floresta Amazonica. Com o auxilio de armadilhas de queda, nos coletamos dados de 349 individuos de 23 especies de lagartos. Depois de controlar os efeitos da autocorrelacAo espacial e empregando uma Analise de Correspondencia Canonica (CCA), nos verificamos que as capturas de lagartos foram significativamente associadas as variaveis de microhabitat, que explicaram 48 por cento da variacAo observada. Alem disso, uma OrdenacAo Filogenetica Canonica (CPO) indicou que as variaveis do microhabitat sAo mais importantes na determinacAo da distribuicAo das especies de lagartos que as relacoes filogeneticas entre as especies. Cupinzeiros, abertura do dossel e circunferencia das arvores foram fortemente correlacionados com a ocorrencia de determinadas especies. Nossos resultados confirmam estudos de autoecologia de especies de lagartos para os quais existem dados disponiveis. Nos sugerimos que a manutencAo de microhabitats heterogeneos deve ser um objetivo central para manter a alta diversidade de lagartos na Floresta Amazonica. |
