A measurement survey of extremely low frequency magnetic field (ELF-MF) radiation levels in the State of Kuwait was conducted, primarily around power distribution lines. The aim of the study was to find if inhabited areas suffer from high magnetic field levels. Furthermore, a survey of the literature on health hazards associated with the ELF-MF has been conducted. Several studies have found that there is an increase in risk of leukemia in children if exposed for long periods of time to levels exceeding 4mGauss. However, no lab studies were able to reproduce this association in a cause-and-effect relationship. Therefore, in our survey, more than 100 trips were made to the surveyed locations to measure the magnetic field levels. Based on our measurement results, no dangerous levels were found in the inhabited areas of the State of Kuwait. However, some high levels do exist at deserted locations around power lines. Our results on most surveyed locations have shown that the magnetic field under the towers is on average of 38.7 mG. The magnetic radiation level at 20 meters away from the power tower is on average 20.4 mG. Further, at a distance of 40 meters away from the tower, the average magnetic reading is 8.5 mG.
