Distribution of six, most common, Cystoseira taxa on the coast of Montenegro (South-East Adriatic Sea) is presented. Scarse existing data for findings of Cystoseira amentacea var. spicata, Cystoseira. barbata, Cystoseira compressa, Cystoseira corniculata ssp. laxior, Cystoseira foeniculacea and Cystoseira spinosa are enhanced with 249 new observations and 65 historical unpublished observations, therefore the knowledge of their distribution is significantly improved. In comparison with information from some other locations in the Mediterranean Sea, condition of Cystoseira populations on the Montenegrin coast appear to be quite good. However we should have in mind negative changes caused by the habitat destruction, sea urchin overgrazing, eutrophication and competition with mussels and alochtonous species. Consequently, importance of protection of Cystoseira assemblages, further protection and monitoring of the sea environment as well as sustainable development of the coast is needed.
