Trigonoscelis gigas Reitter and T. sublaevicollis Reitter are typical and numerous representatives of the tene-brionid beetle fauna in the Kara-Kum desert (Turkmenistan). They are distinctly omni-seasonal species: their imagoes can be encountered on the sand surface from early spring throughout all summer until late autumn. T. gigas and T. sublaevicollis are similar in morphology and ecology, but differ drastically in activity patterns: the first species is strictly crepuscular, while the second one is strictly nocturnal. Beetles of both species have almost identical body shape and size, leg construction (poor diggers), locomotion kinematics, typical habitat, peculiarities of nutrition and behavior. It is very difficult to distinguish them. The beetle remained deep in sand during the rest time. The time of reproduction in T. gigas and T. sublaevicollis is different due to the difference in their circadian rhythms: two species share habitat, but occupy different temporal niches and, therefore, never meet each other under natural conditions independently of weather or season.
