Forage production for cattle is particularly difficult in desert areas of Mexico, including Baja California Sur which is part of the Sonora desert. This study aims to obtain a better understanding of the indigenous plants of the area with potential as cattle fodder Since the tree "palo verde" (Cercidium floridum Benth. Ex A. Gray) is one of the important resources of Baja California Sur equations were obtained for predicting forage production. In each of two seasons, May and October of 2004, and in May and October of 2005, 24 trees (96 trees) with maximum height of 1.80m were cut, and the height (H), trunk diameter (TD), major crown diameter (CD1), minor crown diameter (CD2), and volume (V) were measured. Leaf dry weight (LW), stem dry weight (SW), and total dry weight (TW) were quantified as dependent variables. The models obtained were chosen on the basis of the highest determination coefficients (R-2) and standard error (SE). The best equation for estimating LW was defined by H, V and CD2, whereas the SW and the TW were better predicted by CD1, V and H.
