A study was conducted during 2002-2004 to evaluate seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) biodiversity in Ladakh (Leh and Kargil Districts) for their physico-chemical/ biochemical parameters of ripe fruits, like pH (0.8-1.9), acidity (1.28-7.04), table soluble solids (8.2-16.6), vitamin C (40.8-1446) etc. Considerable variability was also observed in fruit colour (orange red, orange, yellow-orange and yellow), fruit size (length 4.32-9.42 mm, width 3.66-7.25 mm), juice (39-80.46%), pomace (11-42%) and seed (5.85-25%). Nineten promising morphotypes having desirable traits have been identified, multiplied and conserved in the field gene banks.
