英文摘要	We compared the performance of four local provenances of the perennial grass Cenchrus ciliaris planted in a common garden experiment in Thyna Tunisia. Biomass accumulation and the number of spikes showed a very significant provenance effect (p < 0.001). Provenances from Sidi Toui (0.45 +/- 0.02 g dry matter m(-2) mm(-1)) and Bou Hedma (0.39 +/- 0.01 g dry matter m(-2) mm(-1)) were the most efficient in terms of rainfall use efficiency. The least productive provenances were Tozeur and Raas Jedir. Spike production was lower in plants from Bou Hedma and Tozeur than in the other provenances. Provenances Bou Hedma, and particularly Sidi Toui can be of great value for the reintroduction of this species in degraded steppes.
