The lower Eocene locality of Premontre (Ypresian, MP10) has yielded a rich assemblage of lizards. The following lizard families are documented: Iguanidae*, Agamidae*, Gekkonidae, Lacertidae, Scincidae, Amphisbaenidae, Anguidae (Glyptosaurinae and Anguinae) and Platynota (Platynota indet. and ?Helodermatidae). Furthermore, some dentaries may belong to cordylid lizards. Two new genera and species are described: the gekkonid lizard Laonogekko lefevrei n. gen., n. sp. and the scincid Axonoscincus sabatieri n. gen., n. sp. Laonogekko levferei n. gen., n. sp. is unique in having a furrow on the dorsal edge of the nasal process of the maxilla and Axonoscincus sabatieri n. gen., n. sp. has an homodont dentition with a dilated tooth base. This fauna is similar to two older european assemblages found in the Eocene localities of Dormaal (MP7, Belgium) and Conde-en-Brie (MP8+9, France). Its broad diversity probably results from various biogeographic influences (North America, Asia, Africa) during the lower Eocene in Europe.
