The paleoclimate in the Saharan part of the hyperarid desert belt extending, around the Tropic of Cancer, from the Atlantic to the Persian Gulf, is well documented for the last climatic Holocene Optimum, but the situation during the Last Interglacial is only recorded in the Sahara by a few, vast paleolakes (Petit-Maire et al., 1980 Gaven et al., 1981 Petit-Maire, N., ed., 1982; Causse et al., 1989 Petit-Maire et al., 1994). Here, we give notice of the evidence for a large, perennial paleolake by 29degreesN, along the border between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, U/Th dated mainly isotopic substages 5e and 5a, while to this day paleolakes in the Arab Peninsula were only radiocarbon dated stage 3.
