The effect of beneficiation of a technological sample made from two Egyptian chromite ores existing at El-Barramiya and Abu-Dahr districts, Eastern Desert on their mineralogical and chemical compositions was studied. The chromite ore and its concentrate together with Creek chromite and Chinese dead-burned magnesite were investigated for their mineralogical and chemical compositions. Also, two types of magnesite chrome brick samples with weight ratios of 55/45 and 80/20 using the Egyptian chromite before and after beneficiation were processed on a semi-industrial scale up to firing at 1700 degrees C. The phase composition and microstructure of the processed briquettes were studied in relation to their physical and refractory properties. It is concluded that the tabling technique was helpful in eliminating much of the gangue serpentine, chlorite and magnesite minerals associating the Egyptian chromite ore. The substitution of the obtained concentrate for 20% of the run-of-mine ore in the magnesite chromite batches led to produce briquettes with improved physical and refractory properties. This is mainly attributed to the higher degree of direct bonding of periclase and/or spinel phases formed in these briquettes at the expense of its interstitial silicate phases.
