The relationship between body size (length) and biomass (dry weight) was investigated in adults of Tenebrionidae (Coleoptera) inhabiting the coastal steppe of the southern border (27-30 degrees S) of the Chilean desert. Three models were evaluated: the power function (i.e., allometric model), and the exponential and linear models. The power function best described the relationship at the higher taxonomical levels (i.e., genus and family). For Tenebrionidae in tote the regression slope estimated by the power model was between 2,690-2,819 (95% CI). For the generic level, the regression slope was between 2,182-3,483. For the species level, the models were species-specific. In those cases were the allometric model was suitable, the estimated value of the regression coefficient displayed an apparent tendency to decrease form the xeric to the mesic limit of the pluviometric gradient.
