英文摘要	A review of palaeoenvironmental data from geological records, covering the last 140 ka, is presented for the transitional area extending, in northern Africa and Asia, between the humid tropics and the semi-arid or arid zones. Long term arid/humid alternations took place in rough phase with the cold/warm global changes, reflecting a coherent behaviour of the African, Indian and Asian summer monsoons. Global cold phases corresponded to an extension of the arid and semi-arid zones to the south. Global warm phases corresponded to their regression to the north. The continental surface affected by these major changes between the last extreme scenarios (Last Glacial Maximum, Holocene Optimum) was c. 14,000,000 km(2).
