This study gives data on the late Albian to late Cenomanian palynoflora of the Abu Roash E and G members and the Bahariya Formation penetrated in a number of wells drilled in the Abu El Gharadiq Oil Field, central part of the Western Desert, Egypt. The Abu Roash E and G members were dated palynologically as late Cenomanian based on the highest occurrence of both the Afropollis jardinus (Brenner) Doerenkamp et al. and Elaterosporites klaszi (Jardine & Magloire) Jardine. Deposition took place rapidly in quiet conditions comparatively close to the shore and source vegetation. The presence of the fresh water alga Pediastrum is consistent with this interpretation. The Bahariya Formation, on the other hand, is dated as late Albian to early Cenomanian. Biostratigraphic guide species include Elaterocolpites castelaini Jardine & Magloire, E. klaszi, Cretacaeiporites scabratus Herngreen, Dinopterygium cladoides Deflandre, Dinogymnium sp. and A. jardinus which also ranges up into the younger late Cenomanian assemblage listed above. Overall, deposition is of a strong terrestrial input into a near-shore marine setting. A warm and dry climate prevailed based on the presence of the elaterate - Afropollis - Cretacaeiporites association.
