In spite of the conservation efforts of the Mexican government, up to the present the peninsular pronghorn is considered the most endangered mammal subspecies in all Mexico. Because such status we proceed to review the historical population size of the subspecies, traversed by air the original range of the subspecies and with terrestrial vehicles the last reboubt of the Peninsular pronghorn. A total of 22 flight hours were spending in the aerial survey of the peninsular pronghorn original range, and a total of 1,200 km were traversed at ground at the Vizcaino desert. Our data search shows that the population numbers of the previous census never reach numbers above of 100 individuals in total. The original range of distribution of the peninsular pronghorn have been modified and severely reduced. The main causes of such reduction are analysed and specific population protection measures are proposed and discussed.
