英文摘要 | Limonium delicatulum is a perennial salt-secreting halophyte, growing at the feet of the maritime dunes in the salines of the Mediterranean coastal region of Egypt. The plant is able to reduce its water expenditure despite the high evaporative power of the atmosphere. The course of proline content and that of the osmotic potential are almost mirror images of the diurnal course of the water content. The growth of the plant under mesic conditions has several consequences; indicating remarkable plasticity of the plant. The plant has two types of glands: salt glands and mucilage glands. The salt gland consists of 12 cells, rich in protoplasm and enclosed by a cuticular envelop. The mucilage glands occur at the extreme base of the leaf sheath and each consists of a varying number of cells enclosed by large non-secreting collecting cells. Rise of temperature causes an increase in the amount of the fluid secreted as well as the ions. Light causes a decrease in the amount of fluid, but an increase in the concentration of the secreted ions except chlorides. The concentration of the external osmoticum has considerable effects on the amount of fluid secreted and its concentration. |
