近期，中国科学院公布了2020年度“西部之光”人才培养引进计划入选名单和2016年入选者终期评估优秀名单。西北研究院10人入选2020年度“西部青年学者”项目，5个团队入选2020年度“西部交叉团队”重点实验室专项，7人在2016年入选者终期评估中评为优秀。
中科院“西部之光”人才培养计划于1996年开始启动，是中科院针对西部地区人才培养、经济建设和社会发展实施的专项人才培养计划。“西部之光”人才培养计划以来，为西北研究院培养了一批具有较高学术水平和科研能力的科技骨干，同时也为优秀的高层次青年人才开展科研工作提供了初始资源，在吸引、稳定优秀青年人才中发挥了重要作用。
